Everyone has a "best cocktails" list, and most are just one person's taste. This one isn't. We built it from the two most authoritative measures in drinks, which happen to answer two different questions:

• Difford's Guide World's Top 100 - ranked by page views from its ~1 million monthly users. This is what the world searches and wants to make.
• Drinks International's Best-Selling Classics - polled from 100 of the world's best bars across 30+ countries. This is what people actually order and pay for.

Put them together and you get the real picture. Below is the full Top 100 (ranked by Difford's global popularity), with each drink's bar-sales rank noted where it also lands in the world's-best-bars top 50. First, the drinks both sources agree on - the undisputed core.

Top bar-sellers that missed the search list

Because bars and browsers want different things, a few big bar-sellers don't crack Difford's top-100 popularity list - worth knowing precisely because pros pour so many of them: Vodka Martini, Oaxaca Old Fashioned, Southside, and Carajillo.

What the list tells you

Two useful patterns jump out:

• Search ≠ sales. The public's obsession (Porn Star Martini, Gin Basil Smash) isn't what bars sell most (Negroni, Old Fashioned). Novelty and photogenics drive clicks; the timeless classics drive the till.
• The sour and the spirit-forward rule everything. Strip the 100 down and almost all of them are variations on a handful of templates - which is exactly the point of learning balance instead of memorizing recipes.
